Al-Zarqawi pure blood of $ 50 million annually

US to grant Jordan extra $50 million in aid

AMMAN — The US government will grant Jordan an additional $50 million, increasing the US economic assistance to the country this year to $300 million, an official at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said.

According to the official, representatives from the Congress convened on Tuesday to endorse the US budget of assistance for the year 2006 and the final formula showed an extra $50 million to Jordan.

The measure now requires the signing of US president for the grant to become effective.

Attributing the additional aid to efforts His Majesty King Abdullah exerted with the US government and the Congress to continue the support of the country, the official source indicated that “the assistance will be used for implementing development projects and programmes in accordance with the government’s priorities and the national needs.”

Last year, the government presented the US officials with two requests asking that they look into the possibility of offering additional assistance in 2006 to help the country encounter the economic challenges, especially the rise in oil bill.

Jordanian officials also asked Washington to increase the country’s share of US regular assistance for the years 2007-2008.

In 2005, Jordan received $348.5 million assistance from the US, according to the ministry’s figures.
